Daily Devotion: God is Protecting You

Image
God Is Protecting You 'He permitted no man to do them wrong...'  1 Chronicles 16:21 NKJV What would you be willing to do to protect someone you love from harm? Multiply that by infinity and you'll understand how much God cares for you. Nebuchadnezzar took the sacred vessels from the temple in Jerusalem and placed them in a pagan temple in Shinar (Daniel 1:1-2 NKJV). After his son Belshazzar became king, one night during a drunken feast, 'They brought in the gold goblets...from the temple of God...and the king and his nobles...drank from them' (Daniel 5:3 NIV). Now if they'd mishandled some worthless old cup it might not have mattered, but God had too much invested in these sacred vessels to allow them to be mistreated. That night Nebuchadnezzar and his entire kingdom were destroyed because of this unchanging Bible principle: 'He permitted no man to do them wrong; yes, He rebuked kings for their sakes, saying, "...Do not touch My anointed ones..

Don't be like the Bull

Image
Are you yielding to God's Devine directions for your life or just like the bull are you stubborn, refusing to yield to God's purpose and all bent on having things your way?  1 Samuel 15:22 "But Samuel replied: Does the Lord delight in burnt offering and sacrifices as much as in obeying the Lord?  To obey is better than sacrifice, and to heed is better than the fat of rams. God rejected Saul as King because he choose to disobey God's instructions and do things his own way by pleasing his soldiers. Proverbs 14:12 There is a way which seems right unto a man, but the end thereof are the ways of death.  In this generation,  everyone is trying to please the world (who don't really care about them), they go through great pain to create an impression of acceptance in the mind of others. Stop and ask yourself, will it be worth it at the end? Should I enjoy a short period of self satisfaction of having things my way and live with the pain of m

But the Advocate, the Holy Spirit, whom the Father will send in my name, will teach you everything, and remind you of all that I have said to you.   (John 14.26  NRSV ) Over 70 years ago, Japan asked the famous American architect Frank Lloyd Wright to design a hotel for Tokyo that would be capable of surviving an earthquake. When Wright visited Japan to inspect the site where the Imperial Hotel was to be built, he was appalled to find that the soil there was only about eight feet deep. Beneath that was 60 feet of soft mud that slipped and shook like jelly. Every test hole he dug filled up immediately with water. Now a lesser individual probably would have given up right there. But not Wright. Since the hotel was going to rest on fluid ground, Wright decided to build it like a ship. So instead of trying to keep the structure from moving during a quake, he incorporated features that would allow the hotel to ride out the shock without damage. Wright knew that the major cause

What to do with Worry

Image
Life will always present things to worry about. There will always be concerns in this world that vie for our time and attention. We have to learn how to deal with these things in a biblical way so that they don't hold us back. We may be tempted to worry, but worry isn't the answer. Worry gets us nowhere. It doesn't add anything to us nor does it change our circumstances. The only thing worry will change is your attitude. Worry will make you frustrated, irritable and suspicious. Worry will distract you, steal your energy and choke your blessing! How do we overcome worry? Jesus tells us in scripture. Do you remember what He said to Martha and Mary? They were sisters, and He was at their home having dinner. Mary was sitting with Him and listening to His every word while Martha was working, frustrated and worried. Martha even complained to Jesus, and He asked her, "Martha, why are you so worried and anxious about so many things?" She wasn't living in the mome

Thought of the Day

Only a fool would say to himself, ‘There is no God.' And why does he say it? Because of his wicked heart, his dark and evil deeds. His life is corroded with sin. —Psalm 53:1 (TLB) We live like a little ant on this little speck of dust out in space. We get a Ph.D. degree and we strut across the stage and say, “Well, I don’t know whether or not there is a God.” And we can’t even control ourselves. We can’t even keep from blowing ourselves apart. We can’t even keep from manufacturing nuclear weapons that could destroy the world. We can’t even keep from hating each other, and fighting with each other, and killing each other. We can’t even keep from stealing from each other. We can’t even keep from dying, because all of us are going to die. No wonder the Bible says, “The fool hath said in his heart, There is no God,” because a man that would deny the existence of God is a fool. By Billy Graham

For you did not receive a spirit of slavery to fall back into fear, but you have received a spirit of adoption. When we cry, “Abba! Father!” it is that very Spirit bearing witness with our spirit that we are children of God.  (Romans 8.15  NRSV ) Rebecca Manley Pippert recalls the time when she first came to faith. Up until that time she had been afraid that if she surrendered her life to God, He would take away her identity. Even worse, she was afraid she'd become somewhat strange in the process. She thought of religious persons she had known and wasn't sure that she wanted to be like them. She wondered what changes she would have to make in her life: would she have to give up her love of jazz music? Would she have to act religious all the time? Would her friends recognize her? Her worst fear was that her friends would reject her as having become slightly demented. In her mind she would hear the taunts of her friends: "Too bad about Becky. She used to be

Daily Devotion: Use the Keys

Image
…They who seek (inquire of and require) the Lord [by right of their need and on the authority of His Word], none of them shall lack any beneficial thing.  —Psalm 34:10  Jesus said,  I will give you the keys of the kingdom of heaven; and whatever you bind (declare to be improper and unlawful) on earth must be what is already bound in heaven; and whatever you loose (declare lawful) on earth must be what is already loosed in heaven  (Matthew 16:19).  As a believer, you have authority to live a life of victory and to forbid the devil to torment you. It is not lawful for him to destroy you in heaven, so it is not lawful for him to destroy you during your days on earth. Use the keys of the kingdom of heaven that Jesus has passed to you. Loose God’s blessings upon your efforts and bind the evil works that come against the fruit of your labors today. By Joyce Meyer
