Nike Rejection of Stephen Curry Leads Him to A Successful Partnership With Under Armour
Before Stephen Curry was Under Armour the current MVP was rejected twice by Nike.
The rumor on social media over the past couple of weeks that NBA star and devout Christian Stephen Curry was rejected by Nikes for wanting a bible verse on a sneaker. The claim is that Curry was rejected by Nike because he wanted to have philipians 4:13 on his sneaker and I can do all things.
According to a Conservative Angle site "Nike wasn't happy that Curry used a sharpie to write a bible verse on his shoes. So, he broke that contract and went with a company that was open to his faith."
According to faith "Curry broke his deal with Nike to partner with Under Armour, but it was for an excellent cause. He wanted to incorporate his faith into his foot wear so he could promote a powerful message instead of just another empty product."
According To Micheal Brown, author and contributor to Chrristian Post,
"I have read articles speculating on why Nike chose not to sign him, but we do know that before he signed with Under Armour, he made clear that he wanted to put Phil 4:13 on the tongue of the sneaker with the underside reading, 'I can do all things."
An online fact-checking site Snopes noted that there was a strong absence of evidence regarding the claim that Curry and Nike did not make a deal because of religious expression.
"Neither Curry nor Nike said that the deal fell through because of his religious beliefs, nor did Curry claim that Nike would not let him put Bible verses on his shoes," noted Snopes.
"We could find no articles that stated religion was a motivating factor for Curry's deal with either Nike or Under Armour, and these rumors appear to have sprung wholly from one person's Facebook page."
Curry who is the current MVP proves Nike underestimated him.
The athlete Under Armour shoes "Curry One" is essentially sold out saves for sizes 14, 15, and 16.
According to ESPN "It is the best-selling item on Under Armour's website
"On the court, he plays basketball like it's a video game and someone young players can, and want to, emulate because of his size, handle, shot, strong work ethic, and basketball IQ," an executive said. "Off the court, his humility, authenticity, and leadership style are qualities that fans of all ages appreciate and respect."
