UK researchers given green light to gene-edit human embryo

A group of biologist in UK lead by Kathy Niakan of the Francis Crik institution of London, have been given the go-ahead by the UK human fertilization and embryology, the authority to perform gene-editing in human embryos.

This project could be the first after China; to try the technique in humans.

Donald Green, a Dartmouth college professor and author of "Babies by Design" told CNN that " By the end of the century, I'm absolutely confident that we will have the tools for someone with means to use this information to change the child they can have through the process".

This project is set to begin in the next few months.
