Mother of 5 receive life without parol for a crime she didn't commit
Hannah Overton
Hannah and Larry Overton are devout christians, faithful missionaries and parent of four children.
They met and adopted a foster child; Andrew and added him to their loving family.
After 4 months of Andrew living with the Overton, Andrew died of salt intoxication.
In September of 2007, Hannah was convicted of Andrew's death,
She received mandatory sentence: life without parole.
She was sent to the maximun security prison in Gateville, Tx.
Hannah and Larry
In September, 2014; Hannah conviction is overtoned and a re-trial ordered.
December, 2014 Hannah was released on bond and re-united with Larry and their kids.
On April 8th, 2015 - The DA dismissed the charges against Hannah.
While in prison,
Hanna started a bible study; and she vowed to return there to continue a missionary she started.
Overton has big long-term dream for the ministry, she for sees a youth camp for children of the incarcerated.
She also wants to create transitional homes for prisoner being release, a lodging accommodation for families to visit their loved ones,
and ministry for the security officers.
She believes that change will come from faith based programs.
According to her "I believe we could sit and talk all day about the need for reform and rehabilitation in the prison system, and we could talk about recidivism rate and all that stuff but,
if we don't step up and do something, nothing is going to change".
She also said
"I believe it's our job as believers to step up and help these people to be able to be an assistant to society".
While others will do anything to forget their traumatic and painful experience, Hannah is embracing hers for the sake of the gospel.
Her story reminds me of this statement:
"They tried to bury us but they didn't know we were seeds".
I'm with her in prayers and ask for God's tremendous grace upon her and her family.
